Hunter Sprinkler Shields in Stock

Scott_Shumate

For those waiting for a Hunter Sprinkler Shield, we now have them in stock:

The Hunter Sprinkler Shield allows you to turn a Hunter Industries sprinkler controller into a WiFi IoT sprinkler system when paired with Esquilo.

I was so excited to see this. I purchased the shield (actually 2) but later realized my Hunter ICC must use a different protocol because I cannot get it to work. The ICC is pretty old and uses an SRR Remote instead of the ROAM, so I assume that it's a different protocol. I'd like to try to decode the SRR signal like you did with the ROAM. Can you point me in the right direction for how you "used the Esquilo to decode the 1-wire electrical signal into bit values"? Thanks

Scott_Shumate

The Hunter Shield was developed and tested on both a Hunter ICC and a Hunter X-Core. I don't know if there are different versions of the ICC or if Hunter changed their remote protocol at some point. I've use the ROAM on the ICC but I've never tried the SRR. If there are different versions of the ICC, the first question to answer is if they are electrically compatible.

The ICC has been replaced by the ICC2 and the I-Core. My ICC is about 16 years old. How old was the ICC that the Hunter Shield was tested on? If I end up needing to decode the SRR remote, can you point me in the right direction for using the Esquilio to decode? Thanks

Scott_Shumate

My ICC was installed in 2006 so it is at least 11 years old. If you want to decode the SRR on the ICC, then I would use the Hunter shield since it is electrically compatible with the Hunter remote interface. From that, you can modify the Hunter example in the Esquilo library and print out the binary data on the bus. I wouldn't expect the SRR protocol to be that much different but then again you never know.

Hi Scott,

Looks like the Hunter Shield is out of stock - any chance it will be available again soon? I'd love to get a hold of one. Thanks

Scott_Shumate

We've got some more on order. They should here in about 2 weeks.

Did these come back in stock and I missed them? Or still waiting?

Thanks

is it possible to use the hunter shield and the solar sync add on at the same time. I have a older Pro C version and it uses the solar sync module kit. I assume that the light, and temperature information for the solar sync sensor is sent back to the controller by the hunter one wire protocol and this might interfere with the hunter shield (or vise versa) . This is the solar sync module that is required for my Pro C.
